Elmo cupcakes: DIY!

What you need:

  • White frosting (or just red if you can find it)
  • Red food coloring (if you can't find frosting)
  • Cake mix (of your choosing)
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Chocolate sandwich cookies
  • Edible markers
  • Reese's pieces (orange ones)

This is super easy!

Directions:

  1. Bake your cupcakes.
  2. Let them cool.
  3. Mix up your frosting to the desired redness.
  4. Put in a piping bag with a small tip or star tip.
  5. Pipe all over the cupcake.
  6. Two marshmallows for the eyes. Black edible marker for the eyes.
  7. Orange Reese's piece for the nose.
  8. Half of an Oreo for the mouth. I used a knife to cut the cookies. I took the pieces apart then, cut. So, it's 1/4th of a cookie on each.
  9. Give the broken cookies that don't look like mouth to your toddler. ;)
  10. Enjoy!

My tip kept getting clogged. I couldn't find my good piping bag and tips. I have to use a crappy zip lock bag and tip. :( Oh well. Everyone loved them and so did I! Yours will be cuter though because you will have a better tip. ;)

I'm completely OCDing on the placement of the Elmo blowers. They should be facing the other way. Ahh.
 Fruit and veggies.
Mac and Cheese bar. Recipe coming soon!
 Elmo cupcakes! Tutorial soon!
The gift bags. Crayons, Goldfish, finger puppet, and blower (what are these things actually called?). The "Thank you" print is from here. I just cut them out and had one in each bag. :)

Ignore the torn up cupcake. Rj was just trying to get the candle to stay.

 This was Rj's doing..

We had a lot of fun. All of our family came. Thanks, everyone!

Pulling my hair out over potty training. AHHHHHHH!

Brayden turned three a few months ago (August 21st). I wanted to finally start the potty training process, for real. I have tried to a few times before but honestly, there wasn't enough consistency. Also, it didn't help that he seemed pretty afraid of his potty. I got him a potty chart. One day he tore it off the wall. Then, he took all the stickers for the chart and covered his whole body in them. He took apart his potty every time it was near him. He put stuff IN the potty. He didn't care at all if he peed on the floor or in underwear. Pull ups are just like diapers so, those are pointless. I tried bribery with little toys/candy. Nope, didn't work. He would poop on the floor, PUT it in the potty and want treats. Ugh. Heck, for MONTHS he would even say "if I pee pee and poo poo in the potty I get a toy" with a huge smile on his face.

At that point I decided he was just not ready. I fully believe a child will not potty train if they are not ready to.

Around his birthday I wanted to try and be CONSISTENT this time. I just took his diapers away and kept putting underwear on him or letting him be naked. He would request diapers and still does. At least once a day he cries "I need a biaper. It's my favorite." We tell him that diapers are for babies (like Lincoln). We tell him that big boys and big girls (like Mommy and Daddy) wear underwear and use the potty. He loves being referred to as a big boy. Usually that will calm the "I need a biaper" fit.

The first day we started potty training he peed and pooped in the little potty. I never thought I would be so excited about pee and poop. We switched to the real potty because he didn't like the potty. However, from that point it's been a roller coaster. He just does NOT care. He often poops or pees in his underwear. He also often will have accidents on the way to the potty. If you ask him "Brayden, do you NEED to pee?" He responses "I don't want to pee" and a few minutes later, pee on the floor. Ugh. Some times he will go but mostly, it seems like he doesn't care.

I wish mine was one of those "easy" potty training kids. Apparently not. :( We're at three months of trying and he is no more potty trained than he was then.

Advice? Does anyone have a toddler like this?

Holiday gift idea: Night Buddies review! Let's get them to Hallmark stores!

Ever since Brayden (now age 3) learned he could open his door (around age 2) he's had trouble staying in his own bed through a whole night. He would wake up a little freaked out and often scream or cry the whole way to our room. He finally has gotten to where he doesn't cry. He just comes to our room. We have tried plug in night lights, Christmas lights and more. It doesn't seem to help.

I stumbled across a website of an amazing looking product called Night Buddies. Night Buddies® are special plush toys. You simply squeeze the belly and the eyes light up! Children will find comfort and joy at bedtime when they have their Night Buddies® by their side. The patented illumination through the eyes promotes emotion, a universal good feeling of hope, and a great sense of security. With an auto-off feature, children can easily activate light again until they are lulled to a peaceful sleep.

For the longest time I wanted to get Brayden a "pillow pet" one but the price tag bothered me ($30+). I felt like it wouldn't live up to the price tag. Night Buddies suggested retail value is $20 plus, the Buddies are SO much cuter. I am in love with all of the characters this family created. You can meet all the characters here.

I originally lined them up to take photos. Brayden would NOT let me. He just kept grabbing all of them. Haha. Love at first sight.

The creator of Night Buddles is Sally Connolly. I have talked with her a lot through emails. I absolutely love talking to her. She is the most hands on, compassionate person I have ever talked to through my blog. She works VERY long days for her products and truly believes in them. I do too!

She created Night Buddies and filed for patents in 2004 before the light up toy craze began. She created them in 2004 to teach her children how to follow their dreams and enjoy the journey. This lovable plush line is for children of all ages and perfect for every occasion, helping children feel safe at night. Her sons help her design the buddies. This is truly a FAMILY company.

The Buddies are manufactured offshore BUT are designed, patented, created in USA. They do all the packing and shipping in America and buy boxes printing collateral materials all come USA. She has had a resistance that not 'made' in USA. Some buyers will not even consider their products. I think that's really sad because their products are amazing. They tried to manufacture them in the USA but it didn't work out.

Sally has sourced plush from India, Vietnam, Mexico, United States and compared to the quality of Chinese cutting hand sewing and embroidery- they are they best for plush! Their factory is not really a factory, it's a state-of-the-art facility (not all cheap goods come from China. There are some very skilled artists, very sterile working conditions, and very happy workers. It's a global world and we should teach our children that. They are all made with love. Night Buddies® is a patented plush - each buddy is handmade with love in the strictest of standards. Night Buddies® exceed American Testing Standards and the Connolly family personally visits the factories where they are made. Each plush toy is made from high quality fabrics that provide comfort to children of ages 3-10 years. Their toxicology testing certificates rate as clean as organic cotton.

Mac: the eyes are turned on.

Brayden lined them up for me to take a picture.

Night Buddies® promotes storytelling. Storytelling is the root of all community, it is the connection between you and your family. Storytelling globally is their dream. They want to provide a place where kids can share, care and learn about each other. Each child has so much power with their thoughts from a young age - many thoughts are created through stories. Through Night Buddies, they want to create a social network where children, along with their moms or dads, can share in the commonalities in all of us through storytelling. They even have activities for you to do with your kids. Love!

We love these toys. Brayden calls them his "best friends". He plays with them. He pretends to drive the plane and car. He sleeps with them in HIS bed. These belong in our home and I'm so glad we have them! I checked the store locations and there is a store that sells them within 30 minutes of me. I'm so excited! I am gifting so many Night Buddies to all the kids I know! These are PERFECT for holiday gifts and birthdays!

Lastly, I absolutely believe that WE, the public, can help this company succeed. This is an amazing product that should be a BIG name, a BIG company. The family deserves it and the product is well worth it. They are excited to continue the pursuit in building their brand while creating comfort, companionship and connection for children around the world. They hope you will join their family and share your stories. Every child has a story, what is yours?

You can find them on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram.

12 months old: 24 pounds 1 ounce and 30 1/4 inches

This month Lincoln: He is a wild, daring, happy, strong willed kid and we just love him. He has started throwing fits when he doesn't get his way. He is mostly just a happy and loving baby though. He's just a little too adventurous for my taste. He wants to touch everything, climb on everything. He has no fear.

Onesie: Kate Quinn Organics// Pants: Goodwill// Shoes: Walmart

Milestones: He only walks now. He barely ever crawls. He's climbing on chairs and up steps as well. He is VERY dangerous at getting off of chairs though. He says: Mommy, Dada, baby, bye bye, bye, hi, stop it, owie and tries to repeat other stuff.

Eating: We are attempting to switch him off the bottle but he is not transitioning. He keeps refusing to drink out of sippy cups, especially when he is tired. (He has officially switched completely at 1 year and 1 week old.) We have switched him to whole milk and he is doing well on it but it has to be slightly warmed. He won't drink it cold for some reason. He is a great eater with pretty much everything but vegetables. We are working on that. His favorite food is bananas.

Sleep: He starting to go to sleep earlier and waking up earlier. He's been going down around 8-9 and waking up around 8-9. He naps for a couple hours around 1-2.

Clothing: He wears size five shoes and 12-24 month old clothes.
